About the Opportunity

Are you looking to progress your Procurement career with a progressive local government in North Queensland?

Carpentaria Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Finance Officer to join the Administration and Finance team based in Normanton, QLD.

Reporting to the Manager Administration and Finance, you'll be responsible for ensuring Council's financial and accounting records are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation and good accounting practice.  This will include developing and implementing policies and plans that support continuous improvement within your area of responsibility.

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Coordinating with the Management Team on the preparation of annual operational and capital budgets and quarterly reviews;
  • Preparing and presenting for audit Annual Statements of Account for all funds;
  • Financial asset accounting including regular capitalisation of completed projects;
  • Coordinating Council's asset revaluations;
  • Investing Council's excess funds according to Council's Investment Policy; and
  • Ensuring sufficient funds are held in Council's working account to meet day to day needs.

To be considered, you'll have accounting qualifications at degree level and/or a minimum of 5 years' experience in an accounting or finance environment, preferably within a local government environment.  CPA/ICAA qualifications or progression towards same will be highly regarded. 

Carpentaria Shire Council are looking for someone with highly developed interpersonal skills who is able to lead the Finance Section in the Corporate Services Directorate.  

A current C class driver's licence is required before commencing employment with Carpentaria Shire Council.

Carpentaria Shire Council will reward your commitment with an attractive salary package ($85,000 - $91, 000 including allowances) dependent on qualifications and experience.  Also offered is subsidised housing, relocation assistance and 6 weeks annual leave for the right applicant.
