About the Opportunity

Are you looking for a unique Engineering opportunity with a progressive local government in North Queensland?

Carpentaria Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a an Engineer to assist the Director of Engineering with the management of all functions performed by Council's Engineering Section. 

Based in Normanton, your responsibilities will include the following functional areas:

  • Assisting with the design, construction and maintenance of Shire roads;
  • Assisting with the delivery of works programs such as National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) and Department of Main Roads contracts;
  • Overseeing the Town Planning function; 
  • Overseeing Council's Building and Facilities Management including coordination of capital works and maintenance programs on Council properties, including staff housing and aged pensioner housing; and 
  • Providing professional advice, leadership and direction to relevant engineering employees.

To be considered, you will hold a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent and have experience in the project management and supervision of civil projects (road works and drainage) in the local government sector, or similar.

Carpentaria Shire Council are looking for an effective communicator who is able to provide direction to engineering staff and contractors. Importantly, you'll also have high level problem solving and organisational skills.  

You'll also have proficiency in comprehensive report writing and be able to produce logical, plain-English, professional documents.  

A current C class driver's licence is required before commencing employment with Carpentaria Shire Council.
